How long does it take to read 10 pages of a book?
For an average reader, it takes around 15 minutes to read 10 pages. The range is between 5 to 30 minutes, depending on reading speed, words per page, and the topic of the book.
I tested this just recently, and I was able to read 10 pages in about 7 minutes. The book is a small paperback with around 250 words per page.
In this post, we will look deeper into the factors that determine, how long it takes to read 10 pages. We also have two tables that go through reading speed examples, on how much you can read in a given time.
Let’s get started!
How long does it take to read 10 pages of a book?
It might take anywhere from 5 minutes up to 30 minutes or more to read 10 pages of a book. How long it will take depends mostly on reading speed, words per page, and the topic of the book.
Smaller paperback books have typically smaller pages and fewer words per page, making it faster to read 10 pages. Larger hardcover books might have two or three times the amount of words per page, meaning the reading time can be a lot longer as well.
The topic of the book also does play a big part, when it comes to reading a certain amount of pages in a given time.
If you are already familiar with the topic, or the book is a fiction book that does not require a lot of learning and focus, it will be faster to read.
On the other hand, if the book is a scientific or other non-fiction book and you are learning about a new topic from the book, you might want to spend more time digesting the information you are reading.
Next up we have a table that goes through, how long it takes to read a specific number of pages in a given time. The first table is about a smaller book with 250 words per page, the second table is about larger books containing 500 words per page.
Table: 250-word pages in a given time
Pages (250 words each) | 150 wpm (Slow) | 250 wpm (Average) | 400 wpm (Fast) |
1 | 1,7 minutes | 1 minute | 0,6 minutes |
2 | 3,3 minutes | 2 minutes | 1,3 minutes |
3 | 5,0 minutes | 3 minutes | 1,9 minutes |
4 | 6,7 minutes | 4 minutes | 2,5 minutes |
5 | 8,3 minutes | 5 minutes | 3,1 minutes |
10 | 16,7 minutes | 10 minutes | 6,3 minutes |
20 | 33,3 minutes | 20 minutes | 12,5 minutes |
25 | 41,7 minutes | 25 minutes | 15,6 minutes |
50 | 1,4 hours | 50 minutes | 31,3 minutes |
100 | 2,8 hours | 1,7 hours | 1 hour |
200 | 5,6 hours | 3,3 hours | 2,1 hours |
300 | 8,3 hours | 5 hours | 3,1 hours |
400 | 11,1 hours | 6,7 hours | 4,2 hours |
500 | 13,9 hours | 8,3 hours | 5,2 hours |
1000 | 27,8 hours | 16,7 hours | 10,4 hours |
The next table is identical with the only difference being that the pages have 500 words instead of 250 words.
Table: 500-word pages in a given time
Pages (500 words each) | 150 wpm (Slow) | 250 wpm (Average) | 400 wpm (Fast) |

2 | 6,7 minutes | 4 minutes | 2,5 minutes |
3 | 10 minutes | 6 minutes | 3,8 minutes |
4 | 13,3 minutes | 8 minutes | 5 minutes |
5 | 16,7 minutes | 10 minutes | 6,3 minutes |
10 | 33,3 minutes | 20 minutes | 12,5 minutes |
20 | 1,1 hours | 40 minutes | 25 minutes |
25 | 1,4 hours | 50 minutes | 31,3 minutes |

Should you read 10 pages every day?
Reading 10 pages every day is absolutely a great reading goal for beginners. Not only is it really doable, since it only takes from 10 to 30 minutes, but reading 10 pages a day will lead to reading a 300-page book every month!
In fact, in my post on how to set good and realistic reading goals, one of the examples is to read 10 to 15 pages per day to get started. It is a really good goal to start with.
Can you read 10 pages in one hour?
Reading 10 pages in one hour is completely possible, even if you are really slow reader. For an average reader, it would take around 15 minutes to read 10 pages, so one hour should give you plenty of room.
Even though some books do have a lot more words per page, reading 10 pages of a book with 1000 words each is possible.
Depending on the book and your reading speed, it might take anywhere from 6 minutes to 30 minutes to read 10 pages of a book.
Final thoughts
In conclusion, reading 10 pages of a book can take anywhere from 5 minutes, up to 30 minutes or more.
The determining factors for how long it actually takes are:
- Reading speed
- Words per page
- The topic of the book
- Whether you take notes or not
The information in some books could take more time to understand, meaning you might not be able to read at your full speed if the topic is complicated.
Here is a post on how long it takes to read 1000 pages.
Hopefully, this was helpful, have a wonderful day!
